i thought originally that the western politicians, and associated oil companies, wanted to slip their placeman, ouattara, into the presidential palace in order to ensure a slick and undisputed deal between themselves and ghana, in respect of the jubilee oil-strikes - however, it seems that obama, sarkozy, cameron and co. actually want to control the whole damn lot and that gbagbo was err...playing the field and definitely not playing ball...neither of the presidential candidates' régimes bode particularly well for the ivory coast - but the unashamed franco-anglo-american intervention on the side of ouattara is a total disgrace. god knows i hope the ivoreans and ghanaians sort this one out - disagreements over shared oil-reservoirs complicated by western armed intervention is a highly combustible combination...remember kuwait and iraq? fortunately, ghana do not appear to be in favour of a military 'solution'...i think they know that it wouldn't be...
